This image of Joey, taken in the rooftop pool at Le Reve Hotel in LA, was yesterday’s most viewed on my flickr photostream. Joey and I spent the day together shooting inside the room and up on the roof. We talked as we worked, getting to know each other a bit. We had lunch, we walked over to the Pleasure Chest and did some shopping (including the black football shorts he wears in this shoot). Joey was great to work with; I’d love to shoot him again.
This image of Roger is really different than most of the shots I tend to do, which makes it an unusual choice for a favorite of mine. But it works for me on a lot of really subtle levels–composition, lighting, color–all things I don’t spend a lot of time on when setting up a shot. I like the images to feel more natural/less posed. This shot looks posed, but isn’t. Roger was simply working and when he hit this I asked him to hold it a second; I took the shot and we moved on. But when I saw it there was an immediate attraction to the result.
This is one of those pics that you just can’t plan. During 2 or 3 days of shoots together in Vancouver, Roger and I had worked in every setting and shot every scene either of us could think of. Then he brought out this sheer, black t-shirt — reminiscent of one he wore in our first long shoot together — and put it on. It was some kind of inspiration to us both. He started getting into himself and I just kept the shutter moving. Gotta love the result…

This low quality image of Eric was from one of the first model shoots I ever did. Eric had come to Austin to dance/strip at Oil Can Harry’s and agreed to do this shoot with me. He was quiet, very sweet to be around and numbingly handsome. I wish these photos were higher resolution!
I posted this over on the www.MuscleService.com Forums in response to a thread asking if anyone else is into muscular rednecks. The idea of the masculine archetype is something I want to explore more here–and get reader comments on–so I thought I’d repost here:
In my photos I work to reveal masculine archetypes, including the muscular redneck--or at least my idea of who that is. Here are some variations on that theme that I've done over the years:
Caesar’s on top again on my flickr photostream with this image shot soon after his appearance at the Jr. Nationals. Clearly in peak condition, Caesar and I both wanted to capture as many shots as possible while he was in contest shape, so we holed up in West Hollywood for a few days, alternating photo shoots with food, good conversation, and, for him if not me, the gym.
The result? Some of the best shots of one of the hottest muscle men ever… You can see dozens of them on Caesar’s site, .
Yesterday’s most viewed image on my flickr photostream was shot during the filming of Caesar’s solo video, “Caesar’s Heat”. It was a weekend of record-breaking heat–I think it got up to 126–and we all spent a lot of time in the pool. This shot was actually a production still; the videographer was shooting Caesar doing a posing and stripping routine.
All in all it was a great weekend and a fun shoot. Caesar couldn’t be better to work with, more giving, or hotter!
